Year 8 homeschool curriculum
In Year 7, learners move from arithmetic towards algebra, using letters to represent numbers and solving simple equations. They work with index notation, prime factors and ratios, find the area of triangles and parallelograms, reason about angles formed by parallel lines, summarise data with the mean, median, mode and range, and describe sample spaces in probability.
In Year 7, learners move from simply enjoying texts to explaining how they work. They name and discuss language features such as imagery and sound devices, recognise common persuasive techniques, and begin writing structured analytical paragraphs that make a point, support it with evidence and explain its effect. They also experiment with sentence variety and point of view in their own writing.
In Year 7, students classify living things and model feeding relationships in food webs. They separate mixtures using techniques such as filtration and evaporation, explain seasons, Moon phases and tides using the Sun–Earth–Moon system, and analyse balanced and unbalanced forces. They write aims and hypotheses and identify variables in investigations.
