Year 5 homeschool curriculum
In Year 4, learners build fluency with multiplication and division facts, work with larger numbers and begin to see how fractions and decimals connect. They measure and calculate with time, describe shapes and angles, collect and display data, and use everyday language to describe how likely events are. Practical, hands-on activities around the home help make these ideas concrete.
In Year 4, students use prefixes and other word parts to work out the meaning of unfamiliar words. They learn to write persuasive texts that state a clear position and back it up with reasons, and they punctuate dialogue so readers know who is speaking. Reading focuses on summarising and understanding how authors use similes, metaphors and other figurative language, while writing becomes better organised into paragraphs.
In Year 4, students explore how living things depend on each other in food chains, compare natural and processed materials, and investigate how wind, water and ice shape Earth's surface. They examine contact and non-contact forces such as friction and magnetism, and plan fair tests with clear measurements.
