Year 11 Mathematics lesson plans
In Year 10, learners factorise quadratic expressions, solve quadratic and simultaneous equations, and use trigonometry to find unknown sides and angles in right-angled triangles. They model compound interest and depreciation, and develop geometric reasoning and proof. Statistics and probability extend to box plots, scatter plots and conditional probability, building a foundation for senior secondary mathematics.
- NumberCompound interest and depreciationUse the compound interest formula to calculate the growth of savings and loans and the depreciation of assets, and compare compound with simple interest.Create lesson planView lesson
- AlgebraFactorising quadratic expressionsFactorise monic and simple non-monic quadratic expressions, including perfect squares and the difference of two squares.Create plan template
- AlgebraSolving quadratic equationsSolve quadratic equations using the null factor law and the quadratic formula, and use the discriminant to decide how many real solutions there are.Create lesson planView lesson
- AlgebraSimultaneous linear equationsSolve pairs of linear equations graphically and algebraically using substitution and elimination, and apply them to practical problems.Create plan template
- MeasurementRight-angled trigonometryUse the sine, cosine and tangent ratios to find unknown sides and angles in right-angled triangles, including angles of elevation and depression.Create lesson planView lesson
- SpaceGeometric reasoning and proofWrite logical arguments using congruence, similarity and angle properties to prove geometric results, including simple circle properties.Create plan template
- StatisticsBox plots and bivariate dataConstruct and compare box plots using the five-number summary, and use scatter plots to describe the relationship between two numerical variables.Create plan template
- ProbabilityConditional probabilityCalculate probabilities when one event affects another, using two-way tables, Venn diagrams and tree diagrams, and distinguish independent from dependent events.Create plan template
