8. Each table at a party seats 6 people. 1 table seats 6, 2 tables seat 12 and 3 tables seat 18. How many people can sit at 9 tables?
Answer sheet
- 1. 33 — The rule is add 7. 26 + 7 = 33.
- 2. Multiply by 2 — 3 × 2 = 6, 6 × 2 = 12 and 12 × 2 = 24. “Add 3” only works for the first step.
- 3. 7 — 8 × 7 = 56, so the missing number is 7.
- 4. 81 — The rule is multiply by 3. 27 × 3 = 81.
- 5. 5 — 9 × 5 = 45, so 45 ÷ 5 = 9. The missing number is 5.
- 6. 43 — Undo the subtraction by adding: 25 + 18 = 43. Check: 43 − 18 = 25.
- 7. 64 — Each number is 9 less than the one before. 73 − 9 = 64.
- 8. 54 — The pattern goes up by 6 for each table, so 9 tables seat 9 × 6 = 54 people.
