Answer sheet

  1. 1. centimetres — A pencil is short, so centimetres are best. Kilograms measure mass and litres measure capacity.
  2. 2. 100 — 1 metre = 100 centimetres.
  3. 3. 1 kg of flour — 1 kg = 1000 g, and 1000 g is more than 500 g, so the flour is heavier.
  4. 4. 1000 — 1 litre = 1000 millilitres.
  5. 5. a small carton of milk — Small milk cartons are often 1 L. A teaspoon and an egg cup hold much less, and a bathtub holds far more.
  6. 6. 25 — 60 − 35 = 25. Count on from 35 to 60: 5 to get to 40, then 20 more to 60, which is 25.
  7. 7. 8 cm — The leaf does not start at 0, so find the difference: 11 − 3 = 8 cm.
  8. 8. 5 kg — 2 kg + 3 kg = 5 kg.
